Touching the void – Chapter 11 (A land without pity) Summary

Joe wakes up and hears a voice pushing him on even when he is about to give up due to the long miles of snow before him. He has by this point gone 2 days and 3 nights without any food or drink to get him through.

He keeps on trying to get back to camp, but he keeps on falling asleep with the voices in his head trying to keep him going on. He has the idea of using his sleeping mat as a splint for his broken leg to stay on so that he can keep pushing forward. Soon after he finds a trickle of water and starts to drink it. Suddenly confident he forgets to stop moving when he needs to and collapses where he sets up to go to sleep in his sleeping bag.
