Touching the void – Chapter 6 (The Final Choice) Summary

Joe and Simon both start their descent down the mountain, Joe is still in complete agony after his near fatal accident in the previous chapter. Simon is completely confident in his plan to lower Joe down the mountain but as time goes by the descent by Simon becomes faster and faster and Joe starts becoming more painful. The story in this chapter is told with both Joe and Simon’s point of view, Simon realizes that this plan could be fatal and that Joe’s weight could end up pulling both him and Joe of the mountain. Simon thinks of a plan to stop this from happening and remembers that he has a knife in his bag and cuts the rope, sending Joe to what he believes is his death. The chapter finishes with Simon telling us how he feels about sending Joe to what he believes to be his death and digs a snow hole to go to sleep.
