Now wears his crown” Hamlet replies by telling him that he knew it deep down all along, The ghost tells us that his brother poured poison into his ear and leaving him for dead. all this is represented in the lines “My custom always of the afternoon, Upon my secure hour thy uncle stole With juice of cursed hebenon in a vial, And in the porches of my ears did pour The leperous distilment, whose effect Holds such an enmity with blood of man That swift as quicksilver it courses through The natural gates and alleys of the body
And with a sudden vigor doth posset And curd, like eager droppings into milk,The thin and wholesome blood. So did it mine”

Hamlet Act 1 – Scene 2 Sumary

The scene starts off in the morning after Horatio and the guards see the ghost at the castle, King Claudius gives a speech to his people about his recent marriage to Gertrude (His Brothers Wife), this sparks controversy with Prince Hamlet as his uncle is also his father which is very close to being incest as King Claudius is both his uncle and his step-father. King Claudius then expresses his sadness for his brother’s death but also while expressing his happiness for his new wife Gertrude. His speech then concludes.

King Claudius then expresses his concern for Hamlet’s emotions after mourning his father’s death for so long, he also tells hamlet to grow up and get over his father’s death and just accept the fact that he is gone and he is now his new father.

Hamlet then expresses to Claudius how he wishes he could die and tells us even more about his deep sadness for his mother marrying his uncle and how he is a much worse person than his father ever could be. This is expressed in a long Shakespearian soliloquy.

Horatio then enters and says that he has seen what is presumably his father’s ghost in the castle and knows where he will be, Hamlet is asked if he will come watch with them, he agrees and the scene ends.

Mr Waugh – Now &Then – Final Piece

The time is 18:15 and you’re on the way out of the house. The first thing you see is a lengthy corridor which goes to an elevator that takes ages to get to your floor, then you go down to the ground floor where you come out to street level. You come out to the pavement which is made out of a thick concrete texture (like most pavements are), the smell is distant and doesn’t have much to it until you go past the fish shop where the smell of old fish cause the hate and disgust to rise in your nostrils. It is still light outside and the atmosphere is calm and comfortable due to the light around you causing a sense of safety and security.

You then pass by a countless stream of shops, most of which are well-known shops like Waitrose and Tesco. You also get quite a homely feel in a charity shop as the shop never seems to change and always has that distinct smell of old books and that lavender perfume your grandmother always used to wear. Then you come to the large department stores like Debenhams and John Lewis which have distinctive looks and features to them like the company logo and historic location which go back over 50 years.

You then come to Oxford Circus, which is a nightmare to go through as there are many cars zooming through the junction. The hordes of people who barge you out the way and linger in groups straddling the entire pavement do nothing to ease your passage. The best way to describe the sound is the analogy of a party in a circus and everybody in the world has been invited to. You then escape around the corner to a wide length street that stretches towards the famous Liberty department store. This carries on down until you find a regal large building you go inside and see a carpet which leads to a large elegant staircase which comes onto an exquisite bar and into a large room, you sit down and smell the fear and excitement in the air as the curtain rises.

The curtain closes and you are overcome with emotions of sadness and happiness due to the fact you liked the show and at the same time, you are sad that it is over. You then come out of the theatre and see the abundance of people in the area, mingling with the other people who came out of the theatre along with you when the show finished. You then go down the street and come to the junction which you can see and hear is vastly different from what it was 3 hours ago. There are very few people out, but those who are have shady looks to them and it takes a long hard to look around the area to catch your bearings. It is very dark outside and the only light comes from the street lamps and very few shops that won’t close until the early hours of the morning. The light is just about bright enough to see the shady characters that pass the street and always seem to have their hands in their pocket. This gives the impression that they have a knife in their pocket and they are on the hunt for their first target.

You then come to a very dark high street with just one street lamp in sight and a distant shop that has a light outside. Nowhere is open except the Tesco Express that is open 24/7. You can no longer smell that horrible fish smell which is replaced by the smell of cigarettes and alcohol which lingers in your nostrils. You then come to the final stretch of street and then into a quite private piece of land which takes you to a large electronic-fob operated door which you open. You then wait for few minutes for the elevator to get to the ground floor whilst you examine the area and all it quirks; like the bench and mirror which is left to the wooden door leading to the 21 flights of stairs to each individual floor. The lift finally comes and you enter. You then elevate up 7 floors and find a long corridor. You make your way straight down the corridor where you reach the flat at the very end. You get your keys and open the door. It’s completely silent…..

Theatre – a building or outdoor area in which plays and other dramatic performances are given. In other words a place where for many dreams come true.

The foyer, the area where your adventure starts, where you see the people buy their Merchandise and programme from the stewards who you can see enjoy their jobs all followed by the bar where people have their pre show drinks and then enter the auditorium

The auditorium, the centrefold of the theatre, where the magic starts, again where the stewards go around the theatre selling programmes to people who may of missed their first oppuntintly back in the foyer, you feel like the eyes of the theatre looking out towards the heart of the theatre where the nervous performers are hiding behind the curtain. Excited to perform the musical they have taken months to reherse.

You can smell the fear and excitement in the au from both backstage and in the audience as anything can go wrong at anytime. You can hear each individual voice with excitement of what follows the curtain going up, as it is nearly time for curtain call the atmosphere becomes more tense until you hear a sound from a member of staff saying the shows about to start which follows by the lights diming and a musical overture starts which is followed by the inevitable rise of the curtain.

Theatre – A dark desolate place where no one is seen in plain sight.

The Foyer, Nobody life is left, The only light comes from a flickering single street lamp from outside the theatre

Mr Waugh – Styles Of Writing – 10/9/2015

Satirical – Today is exam day, oh how i just loving doing an exam and sitting in a room where i constantly get headaches and don’t forget that one invigilator who looks at you for much longer than feels comfortable to the point where it feels as if you are the only person actually doing the exam . I especially feel pleased when i get to that one question which the teacher quite clearly says will not be on the test which happens quite often by the way, oh how exciting.

1st Person Perspective – I love musical theatre, the idea excites me and makes me warm inside, just the idea of people doing some much rehearsing to put on a show makes it even more worth while when i see a show and see how much effort people put into their profession and makes peoples evening and afternoons incredible to the point where people have favorite shows, me well i cant pick one but one i will hold close in my heart is ” The Phantom Of The Opera” as it is an incredible story with a brilliant story and amazing characters, sets and music, what else could you ask for.

Mr Waugh – Come On Come Back Analysis

The poem “Come On Come Back” is a poem that takes place during the supposed “Future war” but also references World War 2 due to the poems Nazi symbolism in the piece like the use of what seems to be portrayed as a death camp and the use of biological warfare during that time in history which happens much later in history than the Napoleonic war.

The poem also references the Battle of Austerlitz which was a battle that took place during the Napoleonic war which takes places during the early 1800’s (1803 – 1815) which already sounds quite strange as if the future war is some sort of comment on the Napoleonic war and how it was a futuristic war at the tine, enough though it isn’t quite the case

The poem also has some quite dark undertones to it as the poem is basically about a prisoner of the death camp who escapes and swims to freedom but dies while doing so as if it was her fate to be taken to a death camp and try to escape to drown in the lake and die.

Upon researching about the poem it becomes clear that the poem has no clear structure which gives off this unsettling idea as it is not familiar to an audience as they may know many form but this poem does not have a clear form, presenting even more question features of an already quite disturbing poem.

Going even further the lake is described as the icy waters of an adorable lake which gives the idea that the lake is really a better option and therefore gives the idea that death and drowning is a better option than being in a Nazi death camp, but when described as an adorable lake the poem becomes even more darker and disturbing as it is basically saying death in this case is a friendly substance and a way out for the woman in the poem.

Mr Waugh – An Extract From Out Of The Blue Analysis

Out of the blue is a poem which is based on the tragic events of the September 11th attacks in New York City, USA. The poem takes view from an English trader working in the world trade center’s and his understanding of the world he lives in this point of his life is deepening as he is entering the final curtain of his life.

The Poem as a whole is quite a disturb and sinister as it does come straight from the point of view of somebody who is going to face the inevitable and die from this attack on both New York and his own mindset of what he has grown to know about life and his experiences sofar in his life. The poem also gets across to the reader that this event is completely taken off guard to all the citizens as it was a normal day in New York City and this event happens which shows that events in life can come out of nowhere and death can come across to you at anytime. This is significant and is backed up with parts in the poem like ” Do you think you are watching watching a man shaking crumbs or pegging out washing which is an everyday task in a usual day of somebodies life. At the same time the person in the poem doesn’t seem to get to grips with what is going on as he suddenly goes off topic and say ” A Bird goes by” which sounds as if he is being distracted by something so trivial as a bird passing by him, however this could just back up my previous statement about the piece and how the events that took place happened on a seemingly usual day.

The content of the poem with its changing sentence length could also show his changing emotions in this piece as the poem is build up to his death and the emotions that come with the mindset of the fact that you will most likely not get out of the situation the trader is in during the duration of the poem

Finally the poem in many ways uses clever language devices to its full advantage, One major element i realized in this poem is the continuous use of “ing” in the piece, when researching what this could show i found out that this could picture a suspension of time and how the continuous use of “ing” could show how time is not moving and how the same three letters are being repeated in the piece, Ironically enough this could as represent the fact that he is suspending from a window sill watching the world go by before his inevitable death hits him.
