The book cuts back to Simon who has his own share of problems. He talks with Richard and he feels that it is probably time to head back home, Simon agrees but can’t bring himself to leave as he is still full of conflicting emotions on whether or not it is the right thing to do.

We then cut back to Joe who has just woken up and he carries on towards camp but struggles with new senses of sadness out of asking himself whether or not Simon and Richard will be there to greet him when and if he gets back. The voices in is head push him on and once he believes to see the tents he shouts out Simons name, There are no tents in sight.
