Drama – Aganemnon

Agamemnon was the king of Mycenae and son of both King Atreus and Queen Aerope. His brother was Menelaus who was married to Helen of Troy. Agamemnon plays a very big role in the play and in the trojan war as he was the one who got the reluctant greek forces to sail for troy. The play centres around the time leading to the end of the trojan war and most notably the feud between Achilles and Agamemnon because Agamemnon stole Briseis who Achilles has seemed to of taken love for her when Achilles just comes off as a spoilt brat who just want Briseis because Agamemnon does.

Agamemnon appearance comes off as very respectable due to the amount of armour he is wearing to protect him. This could symbolise his power over Achilles as in the play Achilles never really stands up to him and Agamemnon being the king knows that he can take liberties because Achilles can’t touch him because he has power over him. However in the scene I am playing Agamemnon he believes this to the extent that when he is told by the guard that he is planning on leaving with Briseis he goes on a full on rant on the guard because he has departed the bad news onto him.

therefore when I play Agamemnon in the scene I should act as if I have very little patience for this piece of news as Agamemnon has given him what he wanted and he is being repayed by his so-called greatest warrior leaving him. It is very hard not to symphaise with him in this sinario. It feels like Aganenmnon has lost the girl he loves and Achilles is repaying him by throwing all his kindness back in his face.

The trojan war was started off by Menelaus wife, Helen of troy leaving him for Paris of Troy which is the main reason that the Trojan war took place.
