In Chapter 22 of To Kill A Mockingbird after the courtroom case, Harper Lee continues the book whith the aftermath of the case in which the white community is satirised further in the book. Firsstly their is a distinct contrast between people in the white community and the black community in this chapter as Miss Maudie in the book who is a member of the white community at the end of the case is prasing atticus in a distinct way by saying
in context that she is proud of atticus as he may not of won but he did take a step forward for equality as he was the first white man in maycomb to defend a black man in the form of Tom Robinson in contrast to somebody like Miss Stephanie Crawford who is only around to gossip around people and not really care who gets hurt and in what means, this is evident when she is gossiping about Tom Robinson but doesnt care about people like Tom Robinsons Family members for example.
In another contrast between Jem and the judge, Jem at the end of the trial starts crying and we gert the feeling that this is due to the sentecing of Tom Robinson as going back to the earlier stages of the book where the book states taht it is a sin to kill a mockingbird which as i have learnt can be a direct adaption of an innocent person as mockingbirds only provide sweet sounds for all to hearn and dont hurt others which is possbily the reason Jem is crying after this case, This is in contrast to the judge which has typical racial views and is overthroned by them therefore he is completely bias and doesnt care what happens to Tom Robinson
In conclusion as you can see the white community has be shown to have mixed messages with people like jem and Miss Muaudie being the positive and Miss Stephanie Crawford and the judge taking the negative views
